The sociology of aging: understanding the aging process and its impact on society

Abstract
The aging population is a rapidly growing demographic across the world, and it has
significant implications for society. As people age, they experience physical, psychological,
and social changes that can impact their lives and those of their families and communities.
This article provides an overview of the sociology of aging, examining the aging process
and its impact on society. The article explores the social construction of aging, the theories
of aging, and the social institutions and policies that affect older adults. Additionally, the
article highlights the social and cultural factors that shape the aging experience and the
importance of addressing issues related to ageism and elder abuse. Finally, the article
examines the implications of the aging population on society, including healthcare, social
security, and the labor market
