Evaluation of Factors Associated with Teenage Pregnancy in Magambo Town Council, Rubirizi District

Abstract
Teenage pregnancies and teenage motherhood are a public health and obstetric health
concern worldwide. To determine factors associated with teenage pregnancy in Magambo
town council in Rubirizi District. This was a cross-sectional study carried out in Magambo
town council among youths aged between 15-19 years with a study population of 384
participants. A greater of participants were females (100%), by region many were Catholics
146(37.9%), majority 175(45.6%) were single and by education many 271(70.5%) were of
secondary level. 71(18.6%) were pregnant or have given birth before positive while
313(81.4%) have never become pregnant. Thus, the prevalence of teenage pregnancy among
youth aged 15-19 years in Magambo town council is 18.6%. number of partners (3 Vs 1), was
significant to teenage pregnancy. Participants with one partner were 56% less likely to
become pregnant compared to those with 3 partners, (aOR=0.442, 95% CI=0.213-0.922). The
prevalence of teenage pregnancy among youth aged 15-19 years was high which was
significantly associated with number of partners that is having more than one partner
increases the teenage pregnancy.
