Abstract

Steroid therapy plays a critical role in managing a variety of medical conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, 
asthma, and cancer. While effective in alleviating symptoms and controlling disease progression, corticosteroids 
carry significant side effects that may compromise patients' long-term health. These include weight gain, 
osteoporosis, diabetes, and cardiovascular risks. Informed decision-making is vital in mitigating the adverse effects 
of steroids, yet many patients do not fully comprehend the associated risks or understand how to manage them 
effectively. This review highlights the importance of patient education and communication in enhancing decision
making regarding steroid therapy. We explore various strategies for improving patient understanding, including 
simplifying medical explanations, utilizing visual aids, promoting shared decision-making, and integrating digital 
health tools. The study also examines the role of healthcare providers in delivering personalized education and 
fostering trust through clear communication. Despite these strategies, challenges such as time constraints, resource 
limitations, and varying levels of health literacy hinder the effectiveness of patient education. The review concludes 
that enhancing patient education on steroid therapy can improve adherence, reduce side effects, and promote better 
health outcomes by empowering patients to make informed treatment decisions.
